Everything you need to start with SSC MTS 2026 — who can apply, the exam pattern and syllabus, the salary, and a straightforward preparation plan.

What is SSC MTS?

SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) is one of the most accessible entry points into a central government job. With a relatively simple syllabus and a low eligibility bar, it is a popular first target for aspirants who want a stable government job quickly, and a solid backup for those also preparing for SSC CHSL or CGL.

Eligibility

SSC MTS has one of the friendliest eligibility criteria among SSC exams — it is open to candidates who have passed matriculation (Class 10), making it reachable for a wide pool of aspirants. Age limits apply as per the official notification, with relaxations for reserved categories.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The SSC MTS exam tests four familiar areas. The syllabus overlaps heavily with other SSC exams, so preparation carries over:

  • 1Numerical and Mathematical Ability — arithmetic, percentages, ratio, basic algebra and geometry.
  • 2Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving — series, analogy, coding-decoding, basic puzzles.
  • 3General Awareness — static GK, general science, and current affairs.
  • 4English Language and Comprehension — grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

Salary

SSC MTS offers a stable central-government pay package with the usual allowances (DA, HRA based on city) on top of basic pay, plus strong job security and benefits. It is an attractive first salary for 10th and 12th pass candidates entering government service.

How to Prepare for SSC MTS

The syllabus is manageable, so consistency matters more than long hours. Build fundamentals in Maths and Reasoning, revise General Awareness daily, and practise topic by topic with solutions. Because the syllabus overlaps with SSC CHSL and CGL, the same practice moves you toward those exams too.
