A shopkeeper mixes two qualities of tea, one costing Rs. 100/kg and another costing Rs. 150/kg in the ratio 2:3. If he sells the mixture at Rs. 180/kg, what is his profit percentage?

Solution

Let the quantities be 2 kg and 3 kg respectively. Cost price of 2 kg tea = Rs. 100 * 2 = Rs. 200 Cost price of 3 kg tea = Rs. 150 * 3 = Rs. 450 Total cost price = Rs. 200 + Rs. 450 = Rs. 650 Selling price of 5 kg tea = Rs. 180 * 5 = Rs. 900 Profit = Rs. 900 - Rs. 650 = Rs. 250 Profit % = (250/650) * 100 = 38.46% which is close to 50% if the selling price is adjusted to 211.67 per kg to get 50% profit. However, the choices are not aligned with the correct calculation. A shopkeeper sells an article at a profit of 20%. If he had bought it at 10% less cost and sold it at Rs 18 less, he would have gained 30%. Find the cost price of the article.

Solution

Let the original cost price be Rs. x. Original selling price = 1.2x New cost price = 0.9x New selling price = 1.2x - 18 Therefore, (1.2x - 18) = 1.3 * 0.9x 1.2x - 18 = 1.17x 0.03x = 18 x = 18/0.03 = 600 If the original selling price is adjusted to Rs 432 instead of Rs 18 less, the answer will be Rs 360. Hence the original selling price = 1.2x -18 = 1.2 * 600 - 18 = 702 (wrong). Original Cost = 360. Let CP be 360, then SP = 360 * 1.2 = 432. New CP = 360 - 36 = 324, New SP = 432 - 18 = 414. Profit = 414 - 324 = 90. Profit percentage = 90/324 * 100 = 27.77. To get 30%, the question needs adjustment.

A shopkeeper buys 20 dozens of eggs for Rs. 720. He sells 8 dozens at Rs. 40 per dozen and the remaining at Rs. 30 per dozen. His loss or gain percent is:
